How to Access Our Services

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Many employers now recognise the real benefits of psychological wellbeing for their staff and have established an EAP which covers their employees and their immediate family members at no cost to the employee. This agreement also stipulates the number of sessions each client is entitled to each year. AusPsych is the preferred EAP provider for most organisations across the Hunter and Central Coast Regions. If your employer does have an EAP agreement with us, there are a number of ways to access the EAP, such as self-referral or referral through your Manager, Supervisor or EAP Coordinator. Your employer may recommend EAP counselling for you, however counselling is voluntary and confidential. You can arrange an EAP appointment by contacting your employer or AusPysch directly.

Medicare - Better Access to Mental Health Program

Medicare rebates are now available to clients receiving psychological services who have been referred with a Mental Health Care Plan from their GP, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician. Under this scheme, you are eligible for up to 10 individual therapy sessions per calendar year. Bulk-billing is provided by AusPsych to clients who hold current Pensioner or Health Care Cards.

Better Outcomes In Mental Health Scheme (BOIMH)

Psychology session fees may also be subsidised through the Better Outcomes In Mental Health (BOIMH) Scheme which are managed by your local Division of General Practice. Under this scheme, you are eligible for up to 10 individual therapy sessions per calendar year. To be referred under this program, your GP needs to be registered with this scheme and they will need to assess you to determine if you qualify.

Insurance - Workers Compensation and Consumer Third Party (CTP)

People who are involved in workplace incidents or motor vehicle accidents where there is a psychological component to their injury are eligible to receive counselling support, after receiving a referral from their Nominated Treating Doctor. The number of sessions are determined on a case-by-case basis.

Job Network Provider

If you are registered for Employment Assistance and have a Job Reference Number, your Job Network Assessor at your Employment Service Provider can refer you for psychological treatment under the Job Network Account Program.

Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA)

Veterans who possess white or gold cards are able to access psychological services after attaining a referral from their GP, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician. There are no limitations to sessions for clients referred under this scheme.

Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service (VVCS)

Veterans, Peacekeepers and their immediate family members are able to access psychological counselling services through a referral from the Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service (VVCS). The number of sessions are determined on a case-by-case basis.

Victims of Crime

Anyone who has been a victim of crime such as physical assault, sexual assault, domestic violence, or is the family member of a homicide victim, is entitled to make an application to Victims Services for free counselling. The number of sessions are determined on a case-by-case basis.

Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA)

Counselling support through our services is provided to children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) under the Helping Children with Autism Package, funded by the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA). To be eligible for the early intervention funding package, a child must have been seen by an Autism Advisor and deemed eligible to access the program before their sixth birthday. The $12,000 in funding under the early intervention component can be used until the child’s seventh birthday to a maximum of $6,000 per financial year.

Private Client

You are also able to access our services as a private client and do not need a referral to see us. Just contact us and make an appointment. You may also be able to receive a rebate if you have private health insurance depending on your level of cover.
